SAP S/4HANA is SAP’s current ERP suite, built on the SAP HANA in-memory database. It replaces SAP ECC and simplifies the data model — for example, the Universal Journal (ACDOCA) unifies finance and controlling postings, and Business Partner replaces separate customer and vendor masters.
Organisations run S/4HANA as on-premise, private cloud (often through RISE with SAP) or public cloud editions. Because mainstream maintenance for SAP ECC 6.0 ends in 2027, many companies are actively planning their move — through a new implementation (greenfield), a system conversion (brownfield) or a selective data transition.
For decision-makers, S/4HANA means real-time reporting and a cleaner core. For SAP professionals, it means new skills: Fiori-based user experience, embedded analytics, CDS views and clean-core extension on SAP BTP.
